  • Prompts and strategies for idea exploration

  • Thumbnailing and page layout basics

  • Understanding page turns, pacing, and composition

  • Simple frameworks for organizing your story

  • A conversational Q&A about creative process and publishing

What to Expect

Two hours of:

  • Hands-on lessons

  • Interactive discussion

  • Storytelling games and prompts designed to spark new ideas

  • A guided walkthrough of my process — from sketches and manuscript to finished book

You’ll leave with practical tools and inspiration to develop your own stories, characters, and visual world.
No drawing or writing experience required.

About the Workshop

Join for an interactive session exploring the process of illustration for picture books — from sketching, making comics, observational drawing and painting, colour scripting and page composition.
We’ll talk about drawing, painting, and design choices can lead a reader through your story.

We’ll Explore

  • Sketches, character design and development

  • Using colour and shape as storytelling tools

  • Integrating image and text for narrative flow

  • Working with mixed media

  • Thumbnailing and putting your book together

  • Page composition and rhythm

  • A candid Q&A about the whole creative process

What to Expect

Three hours of:

  • Hands-on drawing demos and guided exercises

  • Discussion on technique, materials, and workflow

  • A behind-the-scenes look at the picture book process — from first sketch to finished page

You’ll leave with practical tools to expand your visual language and storytelling voice.

All levels of drawing experience are welcome.
